£53m Chinese Vase Auction: Man Lives In Ventnor

You will, no doubt, remember the remarkable story about the Chinese vase found in a house clearance, which then sold at auction for a mind-boggling, record-breaking price of £53m.

£53m Chinese Vase Auction: Man Lives In VentnorGuess what? It’s got an Isle of Wight connection.

The Mail on Sunday has been digging and found the identity of the Mother and Son duo who sold the vase.

The Son, a 54 year-old retired solicitor, lives in Ventnor with his partner according to The Mail report, adding that he has put his house up for sale.

Pinner connection
For us, this story is even more strange. Sal & I both grew up in Pinner where the vase was found.

Hilariously, the vase was taken on to a TV show called Going For A Song about 30 years ago where it was valued for £800! The Mirror reports that, “A so-called expert said it was a very good copy.”
