At the Overview and Scrutiny Committee last night (see link for our as-live coverage), one of the areas that the Isle of Wight Council (IWC) is looking to raise income from are car users that park on the Island.
Resident parking permits up to £200 + £300
Currently parking permits for Island residents are £75 for a year, the council is proposing that this increase to £200.
Those who need to park in car parks 24 hours a day – labelled ‘named car park permits’ – (if for example where they live doesn’t have other available free parking) would have to pay £300/year instead of the £125 they pay now.
Parking charges up 10%
For those who want to park in council-controlled spaces who don’t buy a resident permit, would find a 10% increase in the charges. These would be rounded up to the nearest 10p.
Tourist parking permits could end
The council also proposes that parking permits offered tourist through hotels, guest houses and Tourist Information centres come to an end.
