A Witness to Change – St Mary’s tour with Richard Smout: Isle of Wight Biosphere Festival 2024 (Free)

Last updated:

As part of the first Isle of Wight Biosphere Festival, local heritage expert Richard Smout will be leading two tours of St Mary’s Church Carisbrooke.

Richard will be giving an overview of the history and natural history of the church and churchyard. He will be weaving in thoughts about how what we see, particularly in the natural world, may have changed over the centuries

Where and when
A Witness to Change: St Mary’s tour with Richard Smout takes place at St Mary the Virgin Church, High Street, Carisbrooke, PO30 1NT on Saturday 29th June at 2pm and 3pm.

The talk lasts for 45 minutes, is free and no booking is necessary.

Parking
An hour’s free parking in the car park opposite the Co-op in Carisbrooke High Street (you must still get a ticket from the machine or parking app).

Accessibility
There are steps leading up to the churchyard if you are approaching from the High Street, and the car park. Inside the church there are some uneven surfaces.

A number of the paths through the churchyard are narrow and will pose challenges to those who need a mobility aid. In some areas of the churchyard there are uneven surfaces, and if the weather is wet both the grass and some of the steps may be slippery.
