The Chesterfields in AAA Records - and Andy receiving the award

AAA Records Awards showcases the best of Isle of Wight’s music scene #5

It’s day five of the AAA Records annual Awards.

Over the coming week AAA, based in Scarrot’s Lane Newport, will be announcing all eleven winners who’ll be presented with the unique AAA Records gold disc.

So far we have seen Jayden Hitchcock from EarsPeeled pick up the Award for Best live Event, Plastic Mermaids take the prize for Album of the Year, Dick Taylor was crowned Isle of Wight Music Legend and Silas Gregory picked up Innovator of the Year.

Single of the Year
Today it’s the turn of Single of the Year and Andy Barding from AAA Records does the honours,

“Hold onto your scarves… it’s AAA Award #5! And time to announce our rip-roaring Single of the Year. Blow me down if it ain’t ‘Mr Wilson Goes To Norway’ by Wight/Somerset legends The Chesterfields!

“This 100 per cent new 7” single and download has had a stack of shop airtime since it came to our attention a few months ago. We are suckers – aren’t we all – for long distance romantic indie pop about mild-mannered book sellers with exotic lives away from their shop counters. The video, shot on location in the West Country and Norway, is charming as heck.

“It’s been a great year for the Chesterfields, who count Island guitarist Andy Strickland among their number. They brought out a fab new album ‘New Modern Homes’ and a couple of great singles, and they toured the UK – launching the live campaign with a roaring free show in the Black Sheep, Ryde.

“East Wight Andy has a long and distinguished heritage as a music journalist, football writer, PR and living breathing jangly rock god for the likes of The Loft, The Caretaker Race and The Confusers. Congrats, Chesties!”

Andy is pictured collecting the goldie lookin’ disc, on behalf of the band, this week.

Another winner will be revealed tomorrow.
