Isle of Wight MP, Andrew Turner, says "we have nothing to fear from standing as an independent nation". In a comment to the press, he also said that he was not planning to comment on David Cameron's resignation.
Andrew Turner was MP for the Isle of Wight between 2001 and 2017.
First elected in 2001 after coming second in the 1997 election, he gained re-election in the follow three elections, 2005, 2010 and 2015.
Anti-gay comments led to resignation
At the end of April 2017, on the eve of the 2017 General election, he was reported as telling pupils at Christ The King that believed homosexuality was “wrong” and “dangerous to society”. Finding himself at the centre of a media storm, within hours, he stood down as MP.
