It's the unusually low tides in August that enables people to 'do the fort walk'. This year tides are not that low. RNLI say safety first - You could be up to your chest in the water.
There’s a slight mystery that surrounds the Bembridge fort walk near St Helens each year – that being the exact date of it changes from year to year.
It is only possible when the tides are at their lowest, as – and this is the attraction of the event – those who take part walk through the sea to reach the Fort, normally out to sea.
The approach is either from Bembridge or St Helens.
