It's fantastic to hear that Islanders shopping at Tesco the weekend before last were so generous with their donations to Isle of Wight Foodbank.
The Isle of Wight Foodbank started back in April, 2011 on the Island.
Their goal? – To provide packages of three days worth of food to families who find themselves in a difficult financial position. It doesn’t stop there, the volunteers also provide support to the people who come to pick up the food.
Since starting, it’s grown in many directions, in terms of events that it runs; the number of supermarket collections that they’ve made; they’ve raised money from employees of local businesses; and most importantly, the growing number of people they’re needing to feed.
If you want to get an overview of how it came about on the Isle of Wight and why it’s needed, have a listen to the OnTheWight podcast with Hannah, the founder of the Island group.
