The Isle of Wight council have agreed for the relevant scrutiny committee to look into the effectiveness of average speed cameras
Cllr Steve Hastings was the Conservative Isle of Wight councillor for Brighstone, Calbourne and Shalfleet.
He was elected as Conservative Isle of Wight councillor for Central Wight in the January 2018 by-election following the resignation of Bob Seely, who became Isle of Wight MP in June 2017.
Steve Hastings resigned from his Baffins (Portsmouth) seat in December 2017, where he served as a Conservative councillor. He had been a member of the Conservative Party for 30 years, then defected to UKIP in 2014. He then switched back to the Conservatives in May 2015.
He also ran unsuccessfully as a Conservative candidate for Newport Central ward in May 2017.
In October 2022 Steve Hastings resigned from the council and left the Conservative Party, stating that he’d “become disillusioned by politics and politicians”.
