Don Smith can no longer walk into the town centre and hasn’t been able to use his mobility scooter either due to the lack of drop kerbs in his Cul-de-Sac.
OnTheWight first reported the ‘ping pong calamity’ that Don seemed to be trapped in earlier this year – when he had the council and the highways PFI contractor Island Roads both telling him to contact the other.
He tells us that six months later, the drop kerb has still not been fitted by Island Roads.
Even a letter to the Prime Minister didn’t work
Don told OnTheWight,
“No drop kerb, this after contacting my MP, the PM, Island Roads, Isle of Wight Council, former leader of the council David Pugh, local ward councillor Shirley Smart, and others.
“It was approved by the Isle of Wight council, then – nothing.
“I’m 81 now, so I must admit that nobody loves me. All promises yet nothing.
“Ah well you never know, Father Christmas … Some chance!”
We wonder which member of the list above will step forward to help make sure Don Smith gets a new drop kerb for the New year.
