All welcome at tenth anniversary of the Cowes to Sandown Cycle track

Don’t forget that tomorrow (Saturday) sees the tenth anniversary of the Cowes to Newport Cycle track. Ed


On Saturday 22nd June 2013 between 10.00- 16.00, CYCLEWight are organising a bike ride along the Cowes to Sandown cycle track to celebrate 10th anniversary of the route being opened.

Free cycle hire for first ten
Wight Cycle Hire is offering free cycle hire to the first ten people to phone 761800 to use on the day. Bikes can be collected from Newclose Cricket Club.

For those interested there will be a commemorative card on which people can collect stickers at various points along the way. Spar, Perowne Way, Blakes’ newsagents, Arctic Road, Cowes and at the refreshment stops.

Refreshments are available at the following:

  • Newclose Cricket clubhouse
  • Rose Cottage, Langbridge

Picnic spots available all along the track including Newclose, Merstone Railway Station, Waterworks near Sandown

Parking at Newclose Cricket Club between 10:00 and 16:00 for a small donation. Access the track directly from the Cricket Ground.

Ten years ago
In 2003 over 400 people rode the route on the opening day.

The cycle track forms part of the National Cycle Network, route 23 that begins in Reading and ends at Sandown. CycleWight worked closely with the Isle of Wight Council and the sustainable transport charity Sustrans to create the route.
