Appeal for information after conmen target elderly Ryde woman

The 96-year-old victim was approached at her home, near Wootton Bridge in Ryde, during the daytime on Thursday, January 9 and agreed to pay the men.

They took the money and then left without doing any of the work.

Description of suspects
The first suspect is described as:

  • white man
  • aged between 18 to 25 years old
  • about 6ft tall
  • slim build
  • wearing a yellow hi-vis jacket

The second suspect was described as:

  • white man
  • aged between 30 to 40 years old
  • about 5ft 10ins tall
  • medium build
  • dark brown hair
  • wearing a red jumper and fawn coloured sleeveless puffer jacket
  • spoke with an irish accent

Investigating Officer, PC Warren Cummings said:

” We are interested from hearing from any members of the public who might have been approached in a similar way by anyone matching those descriptions. Maybe you received a flyer offering garden maintenance?

Whilst this is a rare occurrence, if you do have any concerns about suspicious people posing as cold callers please contact police on 101 or the local Trading Standards office at Newport, who can give advice.”
