Council leader Ian Stephens will be joined by a cross party delegation from all elected groups on the council, the Island’s MP Andrew Turner as well as senior officers.

Ian Stephens:They are meeting local government minster Brandon Lewis MP to outline the Isle of Wight’s case.

£28m funding gap over three years
In December the government announced how much money the council would receive in funding over the next three years. As a result of this, the local authority must make £28 million of savings over the next three financial years and has outlined a number of possible savings options ahead of setting the annual budget in February.

Councillor Stephens said:

“It has been well documented recently that we face significant financial challenges over the next three years.

“We do feel the Isle of Wight Council has a very good case and we look forward to discussing this directly with the minister.

“This is a cross party delegation supported by senior officers and the MP, and it is important we work together to try to do the absolute best we can for the Isle of Wight.”
