During the spring-time it’s very common for bee colonies to search out a new home.
This is called swarming and would typically be spotted whilst bees are in the sky or clustered onto a tree or the side of a building.
Despite its initial appearance of being threatening, it’s worth knowing that the bees are very unlikely to be aggressive or a threat to your safety.
Spotted a swarm?
If you do spot bees swarming please get in touch with the Isle of Wight Bee Keepers Association who will be happy to pick up the swarm.
They’ll take them to the teaching apiary at Quarr Abbey where they can be assessed and help teach other about looking after bees.
