Yesterday, while we were out on a walk, we noticed some new galvanised metal railings starting to be installed on the south side of Belgrave Road.
Frankly they were plain ugly and seriously distracted from the stunning view of the Bay – one that many locals and visitors admire on a regular basis.
After the walk, we were contacted by Cllr Robinson who had responded to a call from one of her constituents, living opposite. They were also highly concerned about what appeared to be an unnecessary installation of railings. Later in the day, there was some discussion about it on the forum.
On a day when there’ll be discussion at County Hall about the closure of schools, we found out it amazing to see council wasting money on installing railings at the cost of goodness knows how much.
The walls has, we assume, stood there since Victorian times without causing many problems. Why ruin it now?
And now you don’t …
We popped down this morning to take a photo, to find the workmen slightly bemused as to the level of interest their railing installation had raised.
There was a large pile of the things, ready to go in for the next 100 yards.
All change – We’ve now been told that the railings have all been removed!
We guess that the photos that we’ve now got of them will have to enter an historical record.
We have to assume some councillor-type powers have been wielded here – jolly good and hurrah for that.
Ventnor lives to survive another day :)
