You may or may not have heard that for the next two years Waterstone’s will be helping to support The Children’s Reading Fund, a fantastic charity that works to promote reading, writing and literacy as a route to personal development and well-being.
In order to help raise awareness, the charity have just been granted to permission to use the much loved image of Roald Dahl’s Matilda as their emblem.
At Waterstones on the Isle of Wight, we’d like to do our bit and so have organised a fantastic event for Half Term that we hope will get kids of all ages involved.
Bruce Bogtrotter Bake Sale
On Wednesday 29th May from 11.00am until 2.00pm we will be holding a Bruce Bogtrotter Bake Sale.
You may remember Bruce, the boy in Matilda who steals a piece of Miss Trunchbull’s chocolate cake, and then as a punishment has to consume the entire cake in front of the Matildawhole school!
Bring your cakes
We’d like to invite everyone to bake some individual cakes (cupcakes, brownies etc) to bring along and sell at 50p each, the seller to make the most money wins a copy of the phizz-whizzing new 25th anniversary edition of Matilda as well as Roald Dahl’s Completely Revolting Recipes. (But please make sure that you bring a list of ingredients).
I’m sure you’ll agree, this is a wonderfully fun event for the school holidays and one which could help raise funds for this extremely worthwhile charity that is very close to all our hearts. It will also be a real test of my resolve in my continuing struggle to get those pounds off!
