Charlotte puts safety first to win VIP treatment from RNLI

Seven year old Charlotte Grundy has furthered her ambition of becoming a volunteer lifeboat crew-member when she grew up, by winning a Stay Safe by the Sea children’s competition staged by the newly-opened Cowes RNLI lifeboat station.

The competition, run at the station during the summer months, attracted many entries. Charlotte’s was selected at random from those that were correct.

A pupil of Cowes Primary School, Charlotte returned to the station with her father to receive an RNLI ‘goodies bad’, and a tour of the station’s Atlantic 85 lifeboat, Sheena Louise, by crew member Patrick Moreton.

She told him she had became aware of sea safety by going on a sailing holiday and hearing a sea safety talk at her school by Cowes station’s education officer, Steve Price.

Steve, also present for Charlotte’s visit, said, “We welcome school and group visits to the station or the chance to make presentations elsewhere. Those interested should contact me at [email protected].”
