Cheesy and Proud of It

In case the news that a young chap by the name of Richard Hodgson from Alverstone has become a world cheese champion managed to pass you by last month, now you know.

Isle of Wight Cheese Available in VentnorYoung Richard (well, 27 actually) gave up a successful media career in order to start making cheeses. His Isle of Wight Blue cheese managed to surpass cheddars, stilton and many other English classics as he picked up the Fortnum & Mason Trophy for Best English Cheese 2007.

And the amazing thing is that he’s only been doing this for less than a year. Using milk from Queen Bower Farm in Alverstone, Richard works a 90 hour week alongside his mum, Julie, to produce 1000 wonderful cheeses.

Congratulations Richard, this is really fantastic news and the Isle of Wight is really proud of you.

Regular readers will already know that you can buy Isle of Wight Blue cheese from (among other places) Norris & Knight, High Street, Ventnor. Go on, give it a try.
