Hampshire Constabulary confirm they were informed of two incidents at schools on the Isle of Wight relating to hazard substances.
The Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team (EOD) were called to two schools on the Isle of Wight on Monday (31 October).
Explosive hazard if stored incorrectly
The EOD team attended Ryde School and the Isle of Wight College to deal with the powdered substance called 2,4 DNP (Dinitrophenylhydrazine).
If kept correctly the substance presents little risk, but schools were advised by the Department of Education to inform the authorities whether they held the substance (used in A-Level Chemistry) and to ensure they were storing it correctly as it may present an explosive hazard.
No other incidents
Police say that currently there have been no other reports involving this substance to Hampshire Constabulary.
