Controlled Explosion On The Island

Ooo … want to hear a story of something going bang?

Hand knitted hand-grenadeWe’ve recently got off the phone with the Royal Navy in Portsmouth who tell us that their Bomb Disposal Experts carried out a small controlled explosion on the Isle of Wight today.

A farmer in Merstone contacted Island Police to let them know that they thought they had uncovered something explosive on their land.

Bomb Disposal Experts
Getting the call from the Police, the Portsmouth-based Bomb Disposal Experts came over to find something that they think was a small World War II hand-grenade. They say think, because it was very badly corroded, making absolutely identifying it impossible.

They carried out a controlled explosion, just to make sure, finishing the job at around 1pm.
