The Cowes Floating Bridge is still out of service and will remain so indefinitely.
A spokesperson for the Isle of Wight council said,
“Despite our best efforts, engineers have been unable to resolve the ongoing software issue which manages the onboard technical systems.
Although the computer software issue does not prevent the floating bridge from crossing the river, it is a Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) safety requirement that the system must be operable for us to carry members of the public aboard the vessel.”
“We must put passenger safety first”
They added,
“Whilst we are committed to getting the floating bridge back into operational service as quickly as possible, we must put passenger safety first.
“The launch service (Jenny Lee) will continue to operate until further notice.
“We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and we will provide a further update as soon as possible.”
