Cowes Floating Bridge: Return to service will be delayed say council

The return to service of the Cowes Floating Bridge, which was due to happen tomorrow (Wednesday), will be delayed say the Isle of Wight council (IWC).

The Floating Bridge has been out of service since 7th March for its five-year inspection by the MCA.

It was due to be out of service for six weeks, but the IWC said last week that it would return earlier than planned, on 13th April.

Windows smashed
However the same day, as Floating Bridge 6 (FB6) returned to East Cowes, two of it windows were smashed as the crew attempted to moor it against a strong tide.

The IWC said at the time that it would not affect the return date, but a week later have advised that it will remain out of service until 23rd April.

A spokesperson from Isle of Wight council explained,

“The floating bridge will be returning to service on the morning of 23rd April, which will be subject to the results of the final MCA inspection.

“In the meantime, a launch service will remain in place for cyclists and pedestrians.”
