Cowes Floating Bridge temporarily suspended for essential preventative maintenance

A reminder that the Cowes Floating Bridge service will be suspended from today until Wednesday next week.

The service is being suspended to allow for preventative maintenance, after a significant amount of wear and tear had occurred to the chain segments, several guidewheels and the prow bushes, during the recent storms.

Precaution to avoid a potential total breakdown
Isle of Wight council say that as a precaution and to avoid a potential total breakdown of the parts, works to carry out rectification of the wear and tear are to be undertaken sooner, rather than later.

They go on to add that the works taking place now, will reduce downtime in March 2024, when the Floating Bridge will be out of service for the usual annual refit.

Passenger launch
A launch service for foot passengers and cyclists is in operation. All other traffic will need to travel via Newport to reach the opposite side of Cowes.
