Users of the Cowes to Newport cycle track will be all too aware of the extension to works taking place along the track after work started back in October.
Good news reaches us this morning, as we hear that the track will be re-opened this coming Friday (11th).
Problems with drainage in the area resulted in hazardous flooding along the cycle track, sometimes as deep as 1m in places.
The extent of the problems and the horrendous wet weather haven’t helped the schedule of works and we understand that more works will take place on the track after it opens, but should affect cyclists.
Peter Hayward, Isle of Wight Council Head of Highways and Transport said: “The team has worked really hard to make sure that we are able to re-open the track on Friday despite some atrocious weather. Although the works to resolve the drainage problems along the track are not quite complete, the remaining elements can be finished while the track is open and it will be good to get cyclists back on the route. I’m pleased that we have been able to get these works done now which will make sure that the track remains passable throughout the winter.”
