Congratulations to the world renowned sailor, Sam Davies, who yesterday picked up the 2009 Ladies Day Trophy award at Cowes Week.
This is the fourth year of the award which recognises the achievements and contribution of women in sailing.
Sam, who was nominated last year for the award, was presented with the trophy yesterday for her outstanding achievements as one of the world’s most talented female offshore sailors.
Those who follow the world of sailing will remember that Sam completed her first solo, non-stop round the world Vendee Globe race earlier in the year in just over 95 days.
Sir Robin Knox-Johnston said of her last year “Sam has shown her real ability. She does not have a new boat but has been keeping up as if she had. She has done her reputation no harm and others will appreciate that her dogged determination is a threat whenever she is racing.”
Other nominees this year included Dee Caffari, Pip Hildesley, Hilary Lister, Jane Lofts, Natalie Jobling and Heleen Wester.
