Curl Play Wight Rock: Review

Thanks to Roger Regular for his review of Curl, who recently played at the Wight Rock Bar in Ryde. Ed

Curl Play Wight Rock: ReviewWell, the Wightrock bar does it again; they are fast becoming known globally as the best micro-venue there is; with all corners of the UK being represented. Yet to come, is a band from Australia, “Bug Girl”.

Friday 30th October saw Curl, an Anglo/French band. Curl sound is unique, taking influences from David Sylvian, Joy Division, NIN, The Cure, Kraftwerk and Radiohead.

Curl had a refreshing sound and performed excellently. We look forward to seeing them here again (if we are lucky).

Supporting Curl was an acoustic set by “The Great Unknown”.

These two very competent lads performed a mixture of their own material and covers. They have some great melodies and some of the best vocals from Platform One.

The Wightrock Bar has a reputation of taking the micro-venue seriously
and are obviously passionate about good bands and good sound. The issue they have (a good issue) is they are getting more requests than they have available dates.

This is due to the word that gets around from previous bands.

I, as many who go to the micro-venue, are looking forward to the future bands.

Some well known are yet to be announced.
