Daring skydive over Sandown Airport raises £5,000 for Age UK IW

Last updated:

Eleven fabulous fundraisers took to the skies recently and experienced an amazing adrenaline rush as they took on a tandem skydive from 10,000ft over Sandown Airport in aid of Age UK IW.

After the weather forced a postponement from earlier in the week, the fearless fundraisers experienced an unrivalled aerial view of the Isle of Wight on Wednesday 9th and Thursday 10th August. With their sponsorship money still coming in, more than £5,000 has been raised so far.

73-year-old sky diver
Amongst the team was super-supporter and real adrenaline junkie, Helga, aged 73 – on her fourth jump in aid of Age UK IW.

Our youngest jumper was just 16 and taking her first jump. Others taking part had chosen to celebrate their milestone birthdays by taking the plunge while raising money for the charity.

We are enormously grateful to everyone who took part and helped raise that amazing total.

Bunce: We run this Skydive every year
Maria Bunce, Age UK IW’s Chief Operating Officer said,

“Obviously our primary aim is to raise money for the charity, but we also want to be able to offer a fun way of doing that.

“We run this Skydive every year – so if you’re tempted to feel the thrill of a tandem jump while raising funds for an independent, local charity, keep an eye out on our website for details of how to be involved next year!”

Praise for sponsors, RenoDrain
Helen Randall, Age UK IW Fundraising Officer, said,

“Huge thanks go to our sponsor, Jamie, at RenoDrain for supporting this event.

“Age UK IW is an independent charity and 100 per cent of all fundraising support we receive stays on the Island to help us enable older people to live well independently.”
