Amanda Burden, of Sandown received a gift of a week’s holiday courtesy of Seaview Holidays after being named the 2014 Santa Dash’s top fundraiser.

Fitness instructor Amanda, who raised nearly £230 in December’s Santa Dash in Ryde, will use the prize of a week’s accommodation in Seaview to allow her mainland family to have an extended visit to the Island.

Amanda completed the dash with Dee Blackman, her business partner in the local fitness and recreation business Fun and Fitness.

Amanda said,

“I really enjoyed the event, the weather was kind to us and there really is such a special atmosphere.

“I was pleased to be able to raise nearly £230 in sponsorship and thrilled to then receive the week’s holiday offer from Seaview Holidays.”

A regular support
Amanda received her gift during a visit to the Hospice during which she also was given a tour of the John Cheverton Centre. Her father Bob was a patient at the Hospice some 20 years ago, and she has since been a regular supporter.

“It is the first time I have seen the new John Cheverton Centre building and I have been amazed – it is fabulous. The Hospice has always been a friendly and homely place and the new building builds on that atmosphere very well indeed.”

Over £7,000 raised
Around 400 people took part in the 2014 Santa Dash – raising over £7,000 to support the Hospice’s work in proving care for people with life-limiting illnesses.

Dani Johnson from Earl Mountbatten Hospice said:

“Thanks to Amanda and Dee and the hundreds of other people who took part, the Santa Dash was a particularly successful one for the Hospice as well as being a lot of fun.

“Everyone who took part can be sure their efforts will make a tremendous contribution to our work. We would also like to thank Seaview Holidays for their kind donation of a week’s holiday.”

Next up for Amanda and Dee will be the 25th anniversary Walk the Wight, on 10 May 2015.
