David Randini extends BRAKE National Road Safety Week to an entire month

As part of BRAKE National Road safety week, David Randini decided to extend the initiative to make it Isle of Wight Road Safety Month.

The response from Island Primary Schools was overwhelming, and the initiative has continued into December.

David has performed 22 shows at 11 primary schools, reaching around 2,500 Island residents. He calls his shows “Edutainment,” a combination of education and entertainment.

Approaching his 1500th performance
This year marks his 21st year of performing these shows, and he is approaching his 1500th performance. So many schools have requested his shows that he plans to continue them into the new year.

David said,

“Road safety is a funny thing. The more successful you are, the less people want it. I have used my micro celebrity to promote road safety in a pro-active and not re-active way.

“I have always believed that my job is to support the wonderful work of road safety professionals who have all aspects of road safety to consider and help by using my presenting skills to bring, particularly, child pedestrian road safety to the fore.”

Praise for Road Safety Officer
David has praised the efforts of Lewis Cambell, the Isle of Wight council Road Safety Officer, who has put a useful link on the internet for the RSCK Road Safety Knowledge Centre.

The link provides lessons and road safety material for every year group, and David has encouraged every school to use it.

A platform to listen to people’s road safety concerns
David has expressed his gratitude for the support of Island schools and parents, who have repeatedly booked his shows over the years.

He says that these shows give him a platform to listen to people’s road safety concerns and pass them on to the relevant road safety professionals and authorities.

Sad loss of two children on Island roads
Finally, David emphasised the reason he started these shows in the first place: the sad loss of two children on Island roads.

He hopes to help prevent other parents from experiencing this tragedy in the future. For him, every week is road safety week.
