David Walter gets his wish: Now revoked as AT’s Election Agent. Replacement named

Following our tweet yesterday (Monday), it has now been officially confirmed to OnTheWight that David Walter has finally been allowed to step away as Agent for Andrew Turner, the Isle of Wight Conservative prospective parliamentary candidate in the 2015 election.

Unable to resign
As revealed last week, David Walter was very keen to distance himself from the Conservative campaign, but Andrew Turner had, David claims, refused to revoke his appointment as Agent.

Once the official Election Notice papers had been issued, he was not able to simply resign, but instead needed Mr Turner’s permission to let him go.

Andrew’s third Agent
The Andrew Turner’s latest Election Agent, the third since December 2014, is Cllr Ian Ward, the Chairman of the Isle of Wight Conservative Association, the Chairman of the Isle of Wight council.

He is also the man David Walter last week reported to the Isle of Wight council for making a “untrue and defamatory statement to the press”.

Opinions “not shared by other members of the team”
Following the publication of a letter David Walter sent to Mr Turner and the IW Conservative Association Executive at the weekend, in which he makes several damning allegations relating to how the campaign is being run, Andrew Turner told OnTheWight,

“I am very disappointed by the way in which David Walter has chosen to bring his concerns into the public domain. I have now formally revoked his appointment as my election agent and Ian Ward, the Chairman of the Isle of Wight Conservative Association, will be taking over with immediate effect.

“David of course is entitled to his opinions, but they are not shared by other members of the team, the Conservative Association’s officers or the majority of voters I have been speaking to every day.”

Turner: “David lacked experience”
When Mr Walter was appointed as Agent – taking over from Mike Rooke who stepped down in January 2014 – Mr Turner had said,

“David’s background is in senior management at board level. He has project management, accounts and business law skills and experience, which will be invaluable in this role.”

However, Mr Turner’s view seems to have changed since Mr Walter’s letter was circulated.

Mr Turner told OnTheWight today,

“With hindsight it is clear that David lacked the experience and resilience that was needed for the role. I regret that he has found this so difficult and has chosen to attack so many people unfairly and incorrectly.”

He concluded,

“Naturally this is disappointing, but with only 10 days to go to the election I will be concentrating on the issues that Islanders are concerned about and working with my tremendously supportive campaign team towards a victory on May 7th.”

Perhaps Denise Dorley-Brown who runs Andrew Turners constituency office should have enlisted the services of Pertemps recruitment agency to have found a suitable Election Agent. On Pertemps promo Denise Dorley-Brown tells how to get and keep the best staff on the Island.Take a look youtube.

Cicero, your being somewhat disingenuous here, you know as well as I do that the only way AT can be defeated by the centre left is if the vote is focused on either David Goodall or Ian Stephens. But you have done your damdest to ensure that does not happen. Hence my essertion that you are a closet Tory.

BB Why not focus the centre-centre left votes on Labour.?

Basically as I have previously stated, I have no horse (donkey?) running the Island race,DGAS who wins as it will not make much difference and as a result will probably vote for “None of the Above”.

If you interpret that as my being a “Closet Tory”, does that not say more about you than me? :-))

Stewart, do yourself and your party a favour, Labour are a minority party on the island which is proven by the fact that you only have 2 out of the 40 councillors. The Labour party in this election will get no more than 280 seats nationally, and will need a dependable coalition partner to help them rule. Tying in in any way with the SNP will be… Read more »

Geoff, your right, I suspect that most if the independent councillors are in their hearts libdem. But you are really just confirming the point I was trying to make. The natural libdem vote on the island is about 40%. The natural Labour vote is less than 10%. Voting labour in this island is in effect a vote for the Tories or worst still UKIP. BB. The LibDems had around 30% at the last 2 general elections. Research it. After the LibDem betrayal of 2010 I have come across very few local voters who will stay with them – and I am out canvassing most days, not sat at my laptop. Most former LibDems will back us with some supporting the Greens. The independent is only popular with his own ego.

Cicero, we may need to differ there. To my knowledge there have only been two occasions in the last 50 years of national government coalitions or pacts, one with Labour and the other with the Tories.

From a political ethos perspective, Labour would appear to be the more compatible dancing partner.

From a credibility perspective another coalition with the Tories this time is very unlikely.

BB You have put your finger on the LibDem problem in this election (i.e. credibility) when you say “From a credibility perspective another coalition with the Tories this time is very unlikely.”.

Do you envisage a New Labour/SNP/LibDem coalition?

Cicero,
Off the top of my head I would predict the following: –

Largest party – Tory 280 seats
Labour 275
SNP 35
LibDem 35
DUP 8
UKIP 3
Greens 1

Government – Labour/LibDem minority

Cicero

BB take a look at may2015.com/category/seat-calculator/

It suggests:
Tory 275 Lab 267
LibDem 27 UKIP 2
SNP 56 Grn 1
Other 4

So possible combinations

Lab/SNP coalition 323
Tory/LibDem/Ukip 304
Tory/LibDem 302
Lab/Libdem 294
Lab/LibDem/rest 299

It looks like SNP will be the deciding factor on who forms the next government whether Miliband likes it or not.
