DJ Alex Dyke: BBC suspends him as breast-feeding comments ‘unacceptable’

BBC Radio Solent DJ, Alex Dyke, has been suspended by the BBC for a series of offensive remarks he made about breast-feeding in public on his Radio Solent phone in on Wednesday this week.

A BBC report published last night confirmed that Mr Dyke had been suspended for making the offensive remarks, adding the BBC had made it clear his comments were “unacceptable”.

National media have covered the suspension of Isle of Wight DJ, who apologised on this Thursday show for “any offence caused”.

“Fat chavvy mums with their boobs out”
As those who listened to the show will have heard, Dyke, say that breast-feeding in public was “unnatural” and “fat chavvy mums with their boobs out on buses isn’t a good look. A classy discrete mum is absolutely fine”.

During in the phone-in whilst speaking with callers, he went on to say,

“I blame the Earth mothers, you know the ones I mean, the ones with the moustaches, the ones who work in libraries, the ones who wear hessian, the ones they’re always on Radio 4 on Women’s Hour, they are always pushing the boundaries and making us feel uncomfortable.”

Social media storm
If Alex Dyke was hoping his controversial comments would bring him fame, he certainly suceeded.

These Twitter searches below show the level of opposition to Mr Dyke’s views (obviously this is external content and the language used on it is beyond our control).

The BBC have not said how long the suspension will last. We’ll let you know once an update is issued.
