Drifting windsurfer rescued by independent lifeboat crew

Thanks to Mark for Sandown and Shanklin Lifeboat for this latest report. Ed

The Sandown and Shanklin Independent Lifeboat was called out for an immediate launch at 10.06 this morning (Saturday), after a 999 call reporting a drifting windsurfer 300 yards off Yaverland Zoo.

The lifeboat launched and did a quick search and the windsurfer was found within a minute. The man was cold but in good spirits, the wind had dropped and becalmed him.

He was returned to the shore at Yaverland and met by the Bembridge coast guard team who checked him out and all was well.

The boat was returned to station where it was washed and refuelled and rehoused.
