The former Coach House at East Dene has gone on the market this week, with a price tag of £1,250,000.
The Allnatt residential education centre at East Dene in Bonchurch closed its doors in January 2021.
The decision was taken by the owners with a “heavy heart” and since then, there have been all sorts of speculation as to what’s happening with the stunning property.
Built in 1824 and nestled in woodland in beautiful Bonchurch, the main house at East Dene was once home to Victorian poet and raconteur, Algernon Swinburne.
The Turret House
The part of the site that has this week gone up for sale is the former Coach House on the edge of the main ten acres site, where school visits slept.
It’s been renamed The Turret House and particulars on the Spence Willard Website explain that planning consent is being sought to convert the building into “an extensive striking residence making the most of the southerly views”.
The conversion plans include seven bedrooms and five bathrooms and the Freehold.
The particulars even show a CGI rendition of what the kitchen in the centre of the house – with the large glass ceiling – could look like.
The main house
It’s still not known exactly what is happening with the main house – there are rumours abound of the sale already having gone through, but News OnTheWight is waiting for official sources to confirm before sharing.
In the meantime, if you’ve got £1.25m down the back of the sofa and probably as much again for the conversion, you might be interested in looking at this further.
