A school that provides a good standard of education where pupil’s personal development, support and guidance are outstanding. That is one of the findings of a September Ofsted inspection at Brading Church of England (controlled) Primary School, which has been given a Grade 2 ‘Good’ rating.
Inspectors found pupils who attend the West Street school enjoyed their education and also feel safe and secure in the environment. They settle into their work well and also gain academic standards that are above the national average. Children get a solid start to their education in the Reception class where their independence is encouraged from an early phase.
Attendance at the school has improved and a rigorous system of monitoring has been established allowing for detailed self-evaluation and identifying areas for development. The school has recognised that some teachers do not make the best use of assessment information when planning lessons.
Brading also uses outstanding links with the local community to its advantage to support the work of pupils. It’s governing body also has excellent links with the town council. One parent wrote that at Brading ‘Every child really does matter’.
Headteacher Beverley Gilbert said “I am extremely happy with the Ofsted inspection. It reflects the hard work and dedication of both the pupils and the staff over the last few years to make the school even better. The whole community can be proud of this report and we will strive to improve the school even further’.
Isle of Wight Council cabinet member for Children and Young People Alan Wells said ‘I congratulate the pupils and staff at Brading Primary. This is just the latest in a series of encouraging Ofsted inspections for Isle of Wight primary schools’.
