Environment Agency issues another Flood Alert amid rising river levels on the Isle of Wight

Another day, another Flood Alert from the Environment Agency.

The latest reveals a Flood Alert in force with possible flooding for the Eastern Yar and tributaries from Whitwell to Bembridge.

Residents are advised to ‘Be prepared’.

The warning, issued at 10.39am, reads:

Water levels in the Eastern Yar remain high. In the last 48 hours, almost half a month’s rain (35mm) was recorded at Wroxall.

At Alverstone, the river will be close to the top of the river bank. Out of bank flooding is expected at Langbridge.

At Alverstone, the river is just falling after the rain recorded earlier this week.

At Sandown, the river level is high and stable. Rain has now cleared the area.

However, further widespread and potentially disruptive rain is forecast for tomorrow (Thursday 16/11/2023).

Up to 45mm is possible. Should this rain materialise, we expect flooding to cause impacts along the entire Eastern Yar valley and property flooding around Alverstone.

At Bembridge, we are operating the sluice to manage the water level. We continue to monitor the forecast. Please ensure that any pumps used to reduce water levels in gardens can operate.
