Events.OnTheWight.com Launches: Isle of Wight Events All In One Place

People often say that nothing happens on the Isle of Wight but having run VentnorBlog for the past four years, we know this is far from true – so we’ve setup the Events On The Wight Website to let you all know what’s going on on the Island (and incidentally prove these nay-sayers wrong).

Events.OnTheWight.com LaunchesCrammed full of Island-wide events from Art exhibitions to Zumbatomics (that’s aerobics to salsa type music to uninitiated), we hope that the uncluttered, easy-to-use site gives you many ways to find an event – whether it be by the day, venue or type of activity.

Bringing together all of the experiences we’ve gathered from running VentnorBlog, we’ve worked alongside Birmingham Web developer and all-round super hero Joshua Hart to build what some have compared to London’s TimeOut for the Island.

It’s been a great example of Hyperlocal sites over the UK working together – there’ll be more on that in a piece later today.

Free to use … and Free to list
If you live on the Island or are planning a visit, we hope that it will become an essential tool to make the most out of the Island.

Best of all it’s Free to use … and Free to list.

If you know of events coming up, just drop us a line and we’ll add them to the site.

Supportive comments
Here are a few comments we’ve had from people who have been Beta testing it.

“A sure WINNER for everyone on the IW. You have thought of everything. Nice to know I can go to one place to find out about most if not all of the events happening on the Isle of Wight.”
Louise Foley

“It’s a nice looking site, easy to use. Can see why you’re excited. Well done!”
Paula Bailey

“I like the idea around the site. The design is nice, and the layout is good. I like the event listing – plenty of useful detail. ”
Garth Oatley

“This is such a good idea – makes it really easy to find stuff. At first glance it looks neat, simple, seems easy to navigate.”
Cheryl Souter

“What a good idea. Just what we need”
Verrall Dunlop

“I must say this is a brilliant idea – a one stop portal is a real asset, you despair of other offerings.”
Tracy Mikich

“Events site looks great. Really impressive”

This is a one-stop shop for all your Island entertainment needs – and the shop is colourful, bright and attractive – even the car-boot sales look more inviting.

Looks good – bit like IW Radio’s Guide though.

Perhaps you should mirror the news from here on there in case you want to swap branding to move towards a whole Island branding in the future? If not, you should at least put a link to here on there.

Great site – you have clearly gone to a lot of trouble to source some really good images. A wonderful resource for the Island – with all the hard work you have put into and into the Blog, I hope you also attract an appreciative commercial audience.

I see you have other spin offs already on the site – will there be more … On The Wight? What about: Living On The Wight – information for people moving to the Island on towns, local attractions and businesses, schools, customs and traditions, local media etc. Holidays On The Wight – a directory of accommodation, attractions, travel providers, restaurants and more, with user-generated reviews. Working On… Read more »

I’ve been playing with this on and off for the past couple of days. I can’t find anything wrong with it. I believe you guys have just changed the face of accessing events information for the Island. My hearty congratulations to you on a job brilliantly done!

Agree, Steve. Looking ahead on the calendar I can see loads I want to go to that I wouldn’t have spotted if I’d been relying on the usual disparate sources (eg Vienna Festival Ballet’s Nutcracker at Medina Theatre, Dec 1 – will def be booking for that). Very very good.

Brilliant sight!

Only trouble is it does reinforce the idea that the Winter Gardens stops on 31st December, and as people find this sight with alternative entertainment that is where they will go.
