Excellent performance by women from Ryde Rowing Club at latest regatta

There was an excellent performance by the women from Wightlink-sponsored Ryde Rowing Club at Itchen Imperial Rowing Club’s Regatta, on the River Itchen, Southampton on Saturday (31st July) backed up by some good performances from the men.

Ladies Novice Fours
In the Ladies Novice Fours the Ryde Crew of Beth Walpole, Julie Clark – on loan for the season from Newport – Stella Baisley and Ella Nichols, coxed by Emily Faithfull comfortably won their heat and went on to win the final in a much tighter race to gain promotion to Coastal Junior Status. 

Ella Nichols then teamed-up with Emily Faithfull in the Ladies Doubles sculls to secure a second win for the Club.

Men’s Coastal Sculls
Joel Smith racing in the Men’s Coastal Sculls also won his heat defeating the BTC Sculler who was the only remaining opponent for the Hants and Dorset ARA’s Coastal Junior Sculling Championship.

So although he only came second in the final, the H&D ARA Championship is his.

Men’s Novice Sculls
In the Men’s Novice Sculls Austin Smith also comfortably won his heat and semi-final but could only finish second in the final.

The other Ryde Novice Men’s Sculler – Ben Sanderson – lost in the heat to the eventual winner. These two then joined together to compete in the Men’s Coastal Junior Pairs finishing second in their heat failing to make the final.

Men’s Novice fours
In the Men’s Novice four the Ryde Clubs A Crew of Frankie Leftley, Paddy Kearney, David Bear and Harry Jones, with Emily Faithful coxing once again won their heat and finished second in the final in a very close race.

The B Crew of Yogi Ashworth, Elliott O’Sullivan, Will Hall and Tom Kerver coxed by Camon Adams finished third in their heat failing to make the final.

Men’s Senior Four
The Men’s Senior Four of Tom Hammond, Joel Smith, Will Bryant and Alex Miller, coxed by Allan Evans will be disappointed to have lost in the heat to BTC.

Boys’ J16 Coxed Four
Ryde J16 Boys’ Coxed Four of Yogi Ashworth, Elliott O’Sullivan, Bradley Whiting and Dan Sanderson, coxed by Cayman Adams, rowed really well to finish second in their final.

Boys’ J16 Single Sculls
Dan Sanderson also competed in the Boys’ J16 Single Sculls finishing third in his heat.
