As reported by OnTheWight last month, a new Government-funded floating bridge at Cowes is due to be in the water by March 2016.
On Tuesday evening, members of the Isle of Wight Executive agreed to begin the procurement process for the new floating bridge at Cowes.
Vital to economic well-being
Cllr Jon Gilbey reminded members the floating bridge provides “an important link that is vital to the economic well-being of both Cowes and East Cowes, as as well as providing a valuable route to schools.”
Detailed business cases to secure the funding need to be submitted to the Solent LEP by October and final confirmation of the funding is expected in January 2015.
Cllr Gilbey went on to explain the the council will be exposed to costs of around £10,000 to cover the initial stages of the procurement process.
Praise for officers
Leader of the council, Ian Stephens praised council officers for their work in having this included in the cross-Solent bid with Red Funnel.
