The Island’s unit of the Army Cadet Force is currently recruiting new Cadets and Adults into its ranks.
C Company, Hampshire and Isle of Wight ACF, currently have five Detachments across the Island located in Newport, Ryde, Sandown, Godshill and Freshwater which meet on evenings during each week.
2nd Lieutenant Stuart Brown of C Company said,
“The Army Cadet Force is a worthwhile and exciting youth organisation to get involved in. We are seeking more of the island’s youth to come get involved with us, so if you’re in at least Year 8 at school and aged 12-18 the ACF is open to you.
“The Army Cadets is not military school, but a uniformed youth organisation that is sponsored by the Ministry of Defence. All cadets learn key skills such as navigation, first aid and field craft along with military knowledge; they also get the chance to build life long friendships along the way. We encourage personal discipline and self responsibility that puts young islanders in good stead for later life.”
Weekend camps
C Company meet for four weekend camps on the Island each year and spend 1-2 weeks in August on the mainland for an annual camp. Many cadets from the Island have had opportunities to go on regional and national events ranging from Sports Competition, skiing in Canada and to different courses up and down the Country.
C Company are also keen to hear from anyone interested in becoming an Adult Instructor with them. If you are aged 18-60 the application process is open to you.
2Lt Brown said of Adult Recruiting,
“You will gain key new skills alongside in depth practical training, volunteering with us will also provide you with valuable experience. You do not need a military background or any formal qualifications as we will provide you with all the training you need.”
