Chocolate

Chocolate lovers! Want to understand why you love it so much?

Barry Arnold one of the Isle of Wight Cafe Scientifique members will be giving a talk on ‘The Chocolate Story – Science and Serendipity’ on Monday night.

Barry worked for the Mars Confectionery Company for many years, both in the cocoa plantations and in research and development here in the UK. He has a detailed knowledge of why so many of us like chocolate and of the scientific approach to understanding its appeal.

This is expected to be a busy meeting, so make sure you arrive before 7pm to secure a seat.

Where and when
The meeting starts at 7pm on Monday 9th June and takes place in the Regency Rooms of Shanklin Conservative Club, Palmerston Rod, Shanklin.

A donation of at least £3 on the door is requested to help cover Cafe Scientifique expenses. i.e. the rent, cost of speakers’ travel expenses and a meal, plus overnight accommodation if needed.

Ooh sounds great. Might have to try and make the time to go to this one. Just in case I can’t make it, are you planning to record it?

Looking forward to forthcoming explanations of why we like wine, sex and beer…

If you really need to ask, look up ‘endorphins’, but what I’d like to know is why Mars (and Kraft and Nestlé) make so little of the good, high cocoa content stuff.
