Find Out More About Health And Adult Social Services Watchdog

Further to our posting a couple of months ago about Healthwatch, this in from the council in their own words.

Magnifying glassLocal community groups and residents are being invited to hear and discuss more about a new watchdog body for Island health and adult social services at an event in Newport later this month.

The meeting at County Hall on Friday 25 November between 3.30pm and 5.30pm will give more details of the new Local Healthwatch body that is set to be established in October next year. The meeting will include presentations as well as smaller group sessions to discuss individual topics.

The new organisation is intended to provide a voice for local residents of all ages on matters of health and social care services. As well as seeking to influence decisions made about these services nationally and locally, Healthwatch will also direct people to relevant information and inform them of available health and social care options.

“Important champion for local residents”
Roger Mazillius, IW Council cabinet member for adult social care, housing and community safety, said: “Local Healthwatch looks set to be an important champion for local residents.

“We want to involve local residents as early as possible in this process to ensure that the Island Healthwatch is as effective as possible. There are a number of Healthwatch models that we could explore and we want the input and ideas of local residents before we commit to any particular approach.”

People interested in attending the event can find out more and book a place by visiting Healthwatch Events website.
