Newport Rowing time trials by Julie Clarke

First of the winter’s rowing time trials on the river Medina

Saturday saw the return of the Isle of Wight Rowing Forum time trials.

The three Island clubs of Newport, Ryde, and Shanklin Sandown took part in the first of the winter’s time trials on the river Medina.

The crews had a fresh following wind which led to some fast times.

The first Division was over the shorter 1.7km distance with the fastest time of six minutes 47 seconds going to Ryde’s coxed quad.

The best performances on handicap went to Shanklin scullers,  Bethany and Frances Katirewa.

The second Division over the longer 3.3km distance, was a warm up event for the Head of the Medina coming up on 26th November.

The fastest time in Division two, 14 minutes and eight seconds, was posted by Newport’s J16 quad.

The best handicapped time came from Shanklin’s Carter Horrix.
