Ventnor 1st XV 15-9 Farnborough 1st XV
From the kick off, Ventnor played with pace and determination scoring within the first five minutes, as Sam Lines crossed the white wash. Damien Marriot could not convert.
Farnborough came back hard with massive runs from their mammoth loose trio. Even once crossing the try line, just to be held up by a heroic tackle from Dean Magnurson. The half ended 5-3 in Ventnor’s favour.
The second half saw another try by Sam Lines, as he weaved through half a dozen defenders to score under the uprights, with Damien Marriot managing this conversion. Farnborough came back fighting and Ventnor had to defend for their lives.
The second half also saw a change in the Farnborough front row making them more competitive than the first half which was dominated by solid scrumming from the Ventnor front row.
Visitors put up a strong fight
Farnborough never gave up and kept fighting relentlessly for some points, but Ventnor saw them off to have the first win of the season.
It wasn’t a pretty performance but a solid one. Ventnor’s game improves every game and there is an air of excitement when the backs start moving the ball about.
Welcome support
It was also good to see a lot of spectators coming to support the team and even players from one of the other Island clubs.
