Independent Arts is delighted to announce that the popular Singing for Breathing group is re-opening this month.

The charity received a grant raised by HealthShape through The People’s Health Trust, enabling them to offer sessions to people with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and other respiratory conditions.

SingAbout
Singing for Breathing is based on a recognised form of therapy specifically developed for individuals with a respiratory condition. Extensive research has been carried out in this area, with flagship projects being delivered at the Royal Brompton Hospital in London.

Each session includes physical and vocal warm up activities, the vocal production of phonic sounds, singing together and relaxation strategies.

Singing for Breathing
Singing for Breathing has been demonstrated to reduce anxiety about breathing difficulty and increase confidence in self-managing everyday activity and living. Participants have described engaging in more social and valued activities and experience less difficulty breathing.

Jessica Paine, Project Manager said,

“We are delighted to be able to offer singing for breathing sessions again after our pilot project proved to be hugely popular with those that attended. All of our previous participants have noticed an improvement in their overall wellbeing, with many citing increased confidence and improved ability to self-manage their respiratory condition.”

The sessions will be held on Friday afternoons 2-4pm at the Riverside Centre, Newport from 15th January 2016. For further information or to book a place on the programme please call Independent Arts: 822437
