Next month, Island musician and radio presenter, Gareth Icke, will be embarking on his latest challenge to raise money and awareness for charity.
You’ll remember that last year he walked across the Wight in just his underpants.
Well, this year, he’s going to swim the Solent from the Isle of Wight to mainland England, even though he tells us that he’s a rubbish swimmer (don’t believe a word of it).
The Lewis Mighty Fund
The reason for Gareth’s challenge is to raise money for the Lewis Mighty Fund.
In October 2008, when he was three years old, Lewis Paul Mighty, was diagnosed with Stage 4 High Risk Neuroblastoma; a very rare form of cancer which mainly targets under 5s.
According to information on the Fund’s website, the prognosis for Stage 4 Neuroblastoma in the UK is around 20%.
Extensive treatment
Lewis has never reached remission despite undergoing extensive chemotherapy, major surgery, a stem cell transplant and two doses of extremely high internal radiation.
His parents say that options in the UK are limited and treatment in other parts of the world come with hefty price tags, so they are appealing for contributions however big or small.
Please visit Gareth’s dedicated webpage to donate via paypal.
Gareth has stated that if he fails to complete the swim from the Island to the mainland on 13th August, he’ll walk down Ryde High Street completely naked.
We expect there’ll be many young ladies hoping he doesn’t make it across the water.
