George Brown rejects Niton Conservation Area plans

Niton residents opposed to the proposed Conservation Area will be jumping with joy after Cllr George Brown rejected the proposals today.

george-brown-iwcA Delegated decision Notice has been issued by the council which states the Cabinet member chose for the following options:

  • THAT Niton Village is not designated as a conservation area – (Appendix 3a).
  • THAT the appraisal document (Appendix 4a) is not adopted
  • THAT Niton Undercliff is not designated as a conservation area (Appendix 3b)
  • THAT the appraisal document (Appendix 4b) is not adopted

He gave the reason for his decision as responding “to the concerns of the overall majority of local residents who had expressed their views to the local ward member and council.”

On The Wight first reported on the unpopular Conservation Area way back in December 2011, following up with a report in March last year by Retired Hack, after Isle of Wight planning officers faced tough questioning from residents at a public meeting.
