Get Online Day: Launch at Riverside Centre (podcast)

As you will have read earlier in the week, today is National Get Online Day.

Get Online Day: Launch at Riverside CentreThe Riverside Centre in Newport are welcoming anyone down today who might be interested in learning the basics of how to get online between now and 4pm.

We popped down there this morning to have a chat with Fraser McDermott who oversees all IT at the Centre.

Learning how to use the Internet can open up a world of possibilities, from buying tickets for concerts online to communicating with family living far away or researching a subject of interest.

The idea of the training today would be to gear users up to use the Internet with the view that they could go on take advantage of up to 30 short online training courses on offer from myguide.gov.uk.

Get Online Day: Launch at Riverside CentreThe informal courses are free to use and can be accessed as many times as you need, meaning that you can train at your own pace.

It’s hoped that National awareness days such as today will encourage those not using the Internet to bite the bullet and help break down the digital divide.

If you know of someone who would benefit from the basic training course of how to get online, why not encourage them to head to the Riverside Centre today before 4pm. If they can’t make it today, the centre do run similar courses Mon-Fri.
