Principal leaving Medina. Executive Head to oversee

Pupils and parents have been informed that Richard Williams, the current head of Medina College and of the Federation (with Carisbrooke College and VI Form Campus) will be leaving the school to take up a role with a multi-academy trust on the Mainland later this term.

In this week’s newsletter to parents, Mr Williams, who informed staff yesterday of the news, said,

“I have thoroughly enjoyed living and working once again on the Island and in amongst the busyness of the day it’s often easy to forget what a beautiful and unique place it is.

“I would like to thank you all for your support and encouragement throughout and I wish you, and your children all the very best wishes for the future.”

Mr Williams joined the school in 2014 after the departure of Nathan Thomas.

Helped strengthen position of both colleges
Joe Finch, chairman of the Governors, said,

“I wish to thank Richard for his two years in post as Headteacher and Federation lead for steering us through a challenging time in education.

“He has helped us to balance the books when other schools have seen increasing deficit budgets, whilst strengthening the position of both colleges as good providers of education amidst the threats of school closures.”

Peter Shaw to become Executive Head
Peter Shaw, head of Carisbrooke College, will later this months oversee Medina and the VI Form as well.

He said,

“Our Federation has come a long way in the last two years and Richard has certainly played a key role in that. As a result, the Governing Body has a wish to put in place initial leadership arrangements that give us stability and maintain our focus on our forthcoming Ofsted inspection next March.

“Consequently, at some stage later this term, I will be undertaking an Executive Headteacher role, continuing my overall responsibility for Carisbrooke College, but also overseeing Medina College and our VI form campus.

“This will enable our highly-effective senior leaders and middle leaders across the whole Federation to continue our improvement journey and I have every confidence that our Federation will continue to strengthen as a result.”

New Head of School
In addition to the changes of leadership, Mr Finch explained other changes in the senior leadership team.

He said,

“Karen Begley is going to take up the position of Head of School for Medina College. Karen has been a member of staff at Medina for 17 years and has been the Director of Progression for the Federation for the past five years.

“Karen has the confidence of the senior staff at Medina and the energy and passion to lead Medina on the next phase of its improvement journey. She will be ably supported by a strong Deputy Headteacher in Nick Krista.”
