Headteacher retires after 40 years of service

Thanks to Simon Richards, Chair of Governors at Newport CE Primary School for this latest news. Ed

Jerry Seaward, who has worked in education for almost 40 years, mainly on the island, has been with Newport CE Primary since September 2013 after joining to assist in the school’s improvement journey after it went into special measures last year.

Commenting on his decision to retire, Mr Seaward said:

“I have had many happy memories over the years teaching thousands of pupils, watching them grow up and in turn teaching their children. There is nothing more rewarding than helping a child reach their potential at school, however the time has come for me to hang up my suit and I look forward to my retirement.”

Jerry’s hard work and commitment has led to good progress being made at the school and the leadership team he has developed will continue to drive forward improvements with the support of the local authority and the Diocese.

The school has been working closely with the local authority’s school improvement team to make interim arrangements until a new head teacher can be recruited in time for the next academic year. Following Mr Seaward’s retirement at the end of the current term, Maxine Gray, head teacher at Wroxall Primary School, will provide strategic leadership as interim head teacher for three days a week.

Simon Richards, chair of governors at Newport CE Primary, said:

“We would like to thank Mr Seaward for all his hard work over the last couple of years and for helping us on our improvement journey, and we wish him all the best for his retirement. With the support of our dedicated staff, parents and governors I am confident that the school will continue to build on the progress made by Mr Seaward during his time at the school and we will achieve our aim of becoming a good school.”

The governing body plans to recruit a new head teacher for the start of the new academic year in September next year.
