Improve balance, boost confidence and reduce the risk of falls with DanceMakers and DanceSense

There will be more ways to dance yourself to health and happiness this year through Independent Arts’ popular dance for wellbeing programme DanceMakers, and its sister project DanceSense, thanks to new to funding from The National Lottery and Sport England through Energise me.

The new funding will allow participants to continue to attend the weekly dance classes in Newport and Sandown and for the arts for wellbeing charity Independent Arts to open a second Newport group to help meet the current waiting lists.

Project manager Hannah Griffiths says,

“We are thrilled to receive this funding for our ever-popular dance groups. These projects help boost confidence, improve balance and can help reduce the risk of falls.

“DanceSense also provides a unique space for people with Parkinson’s, stroke survivors and others with neurological conditions which affect movement, to keep active or rehabilitate in a safe and understanding space.

“They make a huge difference to people’s lives.”

The new Newport group will run on Wednesdays 10.30am-12pm, at the Salvation Army Hall, 72 Pyle Street, PO30 1JU.
