Following the completion of a six month refurbishment programme, the squash facilities at Westridge Leisure Centre in Ryde will be fully reopened to the public on Tuesday 24 May.
The seven squash courts have been refurbished to include new flooring, new glass doors and repainted walls and improved changing accommodation.
Running costs greatly reduced
The running costs of the facilities will be greatly reduced by the use of sustainable materials and technology including re-using and recycling existing materials, light sensors that turn off the lights when the courts are not in use, and low water usage fittings in the changing rooms.
The English Squash Racquet Association (ESRA) also contributed to the cost of the refurbishment.
Extending life of facility by 25 years
The works have been undertaken to extend by at least 25 years the life of the facilities that were coming towards the end of their useful life.
The courts have been completed in time to be used for the NatWest International Island Games on the Isle of Wight next month.
Newly appointed IW Council chairman David Williams and Mark Williams from ESRA will cut a ribbon to unveil the squash courts at 1300.
Two exhibition games will then be played, followed by a junior coaching session before being opened to the public from 1500.
